Mary's Crown: What The Church Teaches About the Mother of Christ

There are four great dogmatic teachings about Mary and a fifth that may be in the works. All of them remind us, that however high a regard we may have for the Blessed Mother, it's not high enough.

She is the Mother of God and the Mother of all humanity, given to us by Christ Himself at the Foot of the Cross (“Woman, behold your son. Son behold your mother” Jn 19: 26-27). As far as Corned Beef Catholicism is concerned, this show is long overdue.

There are four great dogmatic teachings that the Catholic Church holds about Mary. She is the Mother of God. She is a Perpetual Virgin, including after the birth of Christ. She is the Immaculate Conception. And, in a feast that will be celebrated in a few days, on August 15, she was Assumed into Heaven, Body & Soul. There is also a fifth teaching, not dogmatically defined, but still held by the Church that Mary is Co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocate.

In this video discussion, I am joined by John Tuturice and Bob LeBlanc, both well-read Catholics and well-versed in theological issues, to explain these teachings, how they came about and what they mean.
