Sundry Points

* Western Ukraine vs. Eastern (Donbas region) is not just language and culture but ethnic and religious division.

*The Donbas is ethnically Muscovite Rus' - genetic descendants of the Rus' and Mongolian peoples (mixed race) . Western Ukraine is Germanic / Scandinavian Rus' (more "pure race"). There is a lot of racial struggle going on with the conflict.

*Donbas is Russian Orthodox and Eastern Ukraine is Ukrainian Orthodox and Ukrainian Catholic. The Patriarchate was originally located in Kiev but moved to Moscow to fully form the RO. Depending on what side one is on, the UO is seen as the splinter group or the RO is. Massive tensions to the point that currently W. Ukraine is closing down RO parishes and prohibiting the practice of the religion. Additionally, modern W.Ukrain, due to western influence, is considerably more secular than the Donbas.

*For over a millennia, the existential struggle of Ukraine/Russia has been is it western or eastern? This question isn't easy because largely the "being western" has been done by giving up the cultural, language, ethnic, and religious background of the east and embracing continental European aspects.

*There is a certain military antagonism between W.U. and E.U. There is some fun info relating to the divergence between WWII-era military heroes if one should care to look into it.

----

*Russia really does see this as an existential threat well beyond any post-Cold War era conflict.

*If you want a fun rabbit hole to dive into, look into Victoria Nuland and NATO operating in Ukraine (contrary to the NATO Charter).

*Tanks -> It is not so much that currently gen or Gen -1 tanks being sent is the issue (ISIS has already shown that they blow up like any old tank) but that these tanks use depleted uranium shells. Putin has said that he will consider their usage to be the equivalent of using dirty nukes. He is not wrong. Real just war doctrine questions of whether or not these types of shells are even permissible. Recall that Ukraine is primarily farmland.

---

*What are we getting? Well, the conflict is a giant meat grinder for weapons systems, especially WWII and Cold War era tech. War hawks see it as a way to draw down our supplies and cause new modern armaments to be built. Anti-war see it as a way to defang the US by drawing down our armaments. Globalists see it as a means for drawing down armaments worldwide while burning through cash at national levels thus edging nations closer to globalist dependence.

--------------

*This needs to be stressed: These borders that are being argued over are arbitrary WWII/post-Cold-War era borders. Typically, democrats are not interested in borders, especially politically drawn borders. It is really funny watching democrats being so heavily invested in these borders and against the self-determination of a people.

*If we really pull back and look at the situation, Ukraine is a civil war over the self-determination of a region that is put upon and looked down upon by the rest of the nation of Ukraine (same as with the Crimea). To want separate, there really is a perceived sense of injustice going on in those regions. The US is a fool to think that sending dollars and tanks is going to make the Donbas region feel that they are being treated justly by the rest of Ukraine and no longer want to have independence. None of what we are doing serves justice objectively or solves the subjective perception of injustice that the peoples of the Donbas are experiencing.
