(VIDEO): After the Storm--An Assessment of the 12-Day War

Iran and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire. What exactly happened in these last two weeks? What does it mean going forward? We consider several scenarios.

Nothing is ever truly “over” in life, and certainly not in the world of the Middle East politics. But if the Israel-Iran crisis isn’t over, it’s at least closing a chapter. The two countries agreed to a ceasefire, ending what President Trump called “The 12-Day War.”

Over that period of time, we’ve done a video after the initial Israeli strikes against Iran ushered in this crisis and then wrote an article after the U.S. upped the ante in bombed Iran’s nuclear facilities. Our video today is intended to bring some closure by looking at the following issues:

*What exactly happened? Did we destroy Iran’s nuclear capability or not? We explore a couple different scenarios, from the White House narrative of success to looking at the situation with a more skeptical eye.

*How did we get here? How did a president elected on an America First platform, with a long and demonstrated history of believing in and acting on that platform, end up taking this highly provocative action just five months into his new term? We look at a range of factors involved, from Trump’s own views on Iran, nuclear weapons in general, and the internal pressures that come on all U.S. presidents for war.

*What’s the fallout? We look at what is likely to come of this in geo-political terms, as well as what the impact on the domestic political standing of Trump—and by extension J.D. Vance in 2028. This includes a discussion of some of the findings pollster Rich Baris discussed in his show earlier today.

I wrote a novel back in 2003 that was set in a fictional Irish Catholic neighborhood in postwar Boston. It’s still online at Amazon, in both print and electronic formats. The novel celebrates Catholic teaching, old-school populist politics (in an era when the Democratic Party was home to my kind of voter), the Boston Red Sox and Notre Dame football. In the worlds of faith, sports, and politics, it captures what I believe.

I’ve also set up a “tip jar” over at the website Buy Me a Coffee. If you find an article or video particularly informative or enjoyable, you can leave an electronic tip.

Finally, while I’ve gotten active in politics because events of the last five years have shown that we have to protect ourselves, my first interest remains sports. I’ve got a nostalgia website, OUAT Sports, which is regularly updated with historical articles and includes a blog on current games. If you or someone you love is a sports fan, bookmark the site, and sign up for the free Substack associated with it
