The Seminary

Corned Beef Catholicism is committed to producing content on theological and doctrinal issues aimed at helping to provide clarity amidst confusion, and security in a world where so many institutions seem to be falling apart. This page is devoted to putting all of that content in one place.

To an outsider, it can seem that one of those institutions falling apart is the Catholic Church herself. On a purely human level, that’s true. But as Catholics, we believe the Church is the Mystical Body of Christ on earth, whose doctrines and sacramental life are built to last until He comes again.

This three-video series is aimed at explaining that belief. We start with why God would choose to reveal Himself at all, then why we believe that this revelation came in the Person of Jesus Christ, and finally, why are we convinced that Christ founded the Catholic Church.

The Case for the Catholic Church

The case for the Catholic Church is founded on a belief in the papacy—that the Holy Spirit protects this office from allowing the Church to fall into doctrinal error. This can be a difficult dogma for many—including Catholics—to deal with, particularly in an era like where we are living, when so many troubling statements come out of the Vatican. In this video discussion, we seek to explain what the dogma of papal infallibility is, what it isn’t, why we believe it, and why we further believe that it is a way God protects His people from overbearing clerics.

Catholics further believe that Christ entrusted His Mother with tremendous intercessory power before the Divine Throne. There are four dogmatic teachings the Church holds, and a fifth that is proposed. In one video, we explain them all. In another, we discuss one of the most famous apparitions of the Blessed Virgin, at Fatima in 1917 and talk about why it still matters today.

The path to eternity is one of constant purification and that is reflected in the Catholic dogma of Purgatory. In this video, we explain what Purgatory is, its doctrinal basis, and the implications for our spiritual life.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Eucharist are the cornerstones of Catholic life. This two-video series takes place in a context where the traditional form of the Mass—known commonly as “the Latin Mass’ is under assault from the very top of the Church. We talk about what’s happening in this regard, and in another video, talk about general ideas for liturgical reform and bringing an end to what is now over 50 years of controversy.

One of the core assaults made by secular society against Catholic life is that against the institution of marriage. In this video, we explain why we marriage is between one man and one woman—exclusively.

Political discussion is at the core of what we do at Corned Beef Catholicism. The videos below take up different areas where Catholic spirituality and doctrine—which is relevant in any context—seems even important to emphasize.

Politics is about votes, but the vote that truly matters in all our lives is whether we choose virtue or sin. That’s the focal point of this show:

The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Cardinal Virtues

The Catholic Church derives its teachings on political issue from the natural law. We devote one show exclusively to understanding what the natural law actually is:

The Natural Law

The key to a happy life, is ultimately, living right and preparing oneself for Judgment. To that end, we include a video discussion on why modesty—contrary to what secular society would have us believe—is the real key to happiness. And in a show done during Advent season, we talk about preparing for the Second Coming of Christ.
